Design |
The Ultra Small Form Factor computer family is based on a scalable design which facilitates easy customisation to the application requirements. The quantity of the middle slices to be used is variable and depends on the total need for inner area/slots. The smallest configuration (conduction cooled) has only ca. 1.2 Litre and provides beside standard PC interfaces like LAN, USB, VGA, COM also digital and analog IO. |

Each housing slice carries two PC/104 compatible boards and provides one 38999 connector for each board minimising such the need of cross cabling between slices. |
Environmental |
An environmental/EMI O-ring and a proprietary tongue and groove provide water tightness (IP67)and high EMI radiation suppression protecting the inner hardware from any aggressive outer environment. |

The air cooled housing version provides fins for efficient natural convection cooling as well as a conduction cooling path for heat transportation to the mounting structure. The conduction cooled housing version is finnless and optimised for cooling by a cold plate. |

All housing parts are milled from solid aluminium and build up a stiff rugged system dedicated for extreme shock, vibration and thermal environments as characterised by MIL-STD-810. |
EMI |
The power supply unit consists of an advanced EMI filter fulfilling most stringent MIL-STD and DEF-STAN requirements, a protection module for polarity, spike, surge and overvoltage protection for up to 250V DC exceeding the MIL-STD-1275 and ISO7637. Efficient DC/DCs isolate the input voltage from the rest of the system. |

eliminating such the need for additional IO boards resp. additional slots. This results in extremely small system dimensions, weight and power consumption (SWaP). |
System Management |
The system management includes detection of broken devices, monitoring of all system relevant parameters and storage to a non volatile memory for post processing or analysis of system health. The system provides additionally a "battlefield" mode for critical application where loss of system would not be acceptable. |
Reliability |
There are no moving parts. Critical components, e.g. CPU, Chipset, RAM, DC/DCs, etc., are internally conduction cooled by special means. Thus a very low thermal resistance to the ambient outside is achieved and heating up of internal air/further internal devices is such minimised. A IP67 valve provides air decompression for high altitudes. |
Customisation |
The system can be customised and/or extended by e.g. ARM/Power PC or Intel based CPU boards, GPS, video, CAN, SSD storage, FPGA boards, etc. |
